1967 Chevrolet Chevy II Facts and Specifications
General Year Information – 1967 Chevrolet Chevy II
The 1967 Chevy II models received nothing more than a minor redo after the restyling for 1966. (A new body style was due for 1968). Hardly noticeable was that all Novas got a crosshatch pattern that filled the deck lid trim panel. The Nova model was officially still called the “Chevy II Nova”. Significantly, it had overtaken the bottom-rung Chevy II 100 in sales due mostly to the fact that the Chevy II 100 lacked much in the way of trim or brightwork, something the buyers of smaller cars wanted.
However, the 1967 models carried significant improvements in the area of safety equipment. Key were government-mandated energy-absorbing steering column and safety steering wheel, soft interior armrests and sun visors, and recessed instrument panel knobs, strengthened front seat belt anchors and a dual brake master cylinder were now part of all 1967 models.
As we stated, the 1967 Nova rendition continued to attract compact-car shoppers, but the Chevrolet Camaro, introduced for 1967, took away from some of the more sporty Nova sales. Missing since 1963 was was a convertible that might have helped sales in this segment. Available only in hardtop coupe form, the 1967 Chevrolet Nova SS got a new black-accented anodized aluminum grille. The SS wheel covers were once again inherited – this time from the 1965–66 full-size Impala SS. The 1966 “Chevy II SS” badges were replaced with “Nova SS” emblems this year.
The Nova version engine choices began with the 194 CID I-6 engine, unlike the Chevy II 100 that was offered with the 153 CID I-4 as the base powerplant. The Nova could now receive the new optional 250 CID I-6, in addition to a 195 HP 283 CID V-8 and, or a 275 HP 327 CID V-8. Missing was last year’s 350 HP 327 CID L79 powerplant.
The Nova SS received a console-mounted shift lever with their Powerglide automatic transmission or a four-speed manual. Other models had a column-mounted gearshift. Compared to the 1966 model year output, sales of the 1967 models dropped by more than a third to 106,500. 10,100 Nova SS Chevrolets were produced, with 8,200 having V-8 engines. In the Chevy II 100 and regular Nova series, the I-6 engine outsold the V-8.

The L79 version of the 327 CID V-8 engine was deleted from the available engine options. The most powerful available was the 275 HP 327 CID V-8 L30. This would change in 1968 with the advent of the new body.

The styling was only slightly changed for 1967 in anticipation of the new body in 1968. Key was the grille and rear fascia panel insert on the Nova and the Nova SS. Chevy II 100 models did not receive the rear panel insert.
