2006 GTO – Hold the Fort! is Help Coming?

General Year Information – 2006 Pontiac GTO
On February 21, 2006, Buick-Pontiac-GMC General Manager John Larson announced to dealers that GM would halt imports of the GTO in September, making 2006 the last model year for the 2004-2006 GTO. The Division offered that the current design would not meet new airbag deployment standards for 2007. In actuality, the car was dated and a redesign was not in the cards at Holden. Pontiac was preparing to import the Pontiac G8 in 2008 – a full-size sedan that would be produced by Holden in Australia. The G8, would be a rebadged Holden Commodore sedan.
The final production numbers of the 2006 Pontiac GTO amounted to 13,948 cars, an increase from 11,069 cars from the previous model year. The last Pontiac GTO (the last Monaro-based coupe produced, came off the assembly line in Australia on June 14, 2006. Total production for all three years amounted to 40,808 vehicles.
