1965 Vista Cruiser – Replacing the Full Size Wagon
Now in its second year, the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser was among the most attractive station wagons available for 1965. Sheetmetal came from the Cutlass/F-85, but the wheelbase and overall length were longer than wagons from those series. For the first time, the Vista Cruiser replaced the full size wagon in the line.

General Year Information – 1965 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser Facts
From 1965 through 1970 Oldsmobile discontinued the full-sized Oldsmobile wagon, making the Vista Cruiser the division’s long wheelbase model. The shorter-wheelbase F-85 station wagon became the entry-level trim package of the mid-size line leaving the Vista Cruiser in size in between the the mid-size cars and the full size car with a 120 inch wheelbase and an overall length of 207.78 inches.
Engines were provided buy the F-85.Cutlass line with the base powerplant the 250 HP 330 CID V-8 and the 315 HP version optional. Unlike the mid-size line no V-6 was offered. The automatic transmission was the newly introduced Jetaway 2-speed.
Historical
Model year Vista Cruiser production was a solid 32,005 units. This was an almost 3 times increase in sales over its introductory year in 1964.

The Olds Big Block was an outgrowth of the 330 CID V-8 that appeared a year earlier. It was essentially the same configuration with an increased deck height and larger bore and stroke delivering either 400 or 425 CID. Bore and stroke for the 442 version was 4.00″ x 3.975″, for 400 CID. It was not available on the Vista Cruiser. The line made do with the 330 CID short deck V-8 in 250 and 315 HP configurations.
Though there is little evidence that any Vista Cruisers were 4-speed manual transmission equipped, the gearbox was listed as available.

Vista Cruiser Standard – Sheetmetal came from the Cutlass/F-85 dies, but the wheelbase and overall length were longer than wagons from those series. Standard equipment included: tinted Vista roof; underfloor luggage compartment; electric windshield wipers and self-adjusting brakes. Interiors were done in either vinyl or cloth.
Vista Cruiser models were 6- and 9-passenger Station Wagons.
Vista Cruiser Standard – Sheetmetal came from the Cutlass/F-85 dies, but the wheelbase and overall length were longer than wagons from those series. The Custom package included the standard model’s equipment of tinted Vista roof; underfloor luggage compartment, electric windshield wipers, and self-adjusting brakes, and added DeLuxe steering wheel, padded dash, chrome window frames, and foam padded seat cushions. As with the standard model, interiors were done in either vinyl or cloth.
Vista Cruiser Custom models were 6- and 9-passenger Station Wagons.
