1965 Chevrolet Chevy II Facts and Specifications
General Year Information – 1965 Chevrolet Chevy II
The 1965 Chevrolet Chevy II/Nova was updated with new front-end styling – a fresh full-width grille with new integrated headlight bezels. Parking lights were moved down to the bumper, and sedans received a new roof line. Taillights and backup lights were restyled, as was the rear cove. The 1965 Chevy II came in entry-level 100 form or Nova 400, each in three body styles.
The Nova Super Sport was a Sport Coupe only. Super Sports had a new brushed-chrome console with floor-mounted four-speed manual transmission or Powerglide automatic, but the column-mounted three-speed manual was still standard. Bucket seats were textured vinyl, and the dashboard of the SS had an ammeter, oil pressure, and temperature gauge.
The engine lineup was expanded, with six choices of one 4-cylinder, two 6-cylinder, and four V-8 engines with the 4-cylinder was available only in the 100. The 1965 Chevy II is best remembered as the year it became a muscle car. Te last two V-8 offerings were now the 327 CID V8. It was available in 250 and 300 HP/ This put the Nova SS on a par with the GTO, 4-4-2, and the Mustang 289 CID 271 HP Hi-Po. In late February, the 283 CID 220 HP V-8 returned.
However, the Chevelle Malibu SS was eating away at the Nova SS market. Out of 122,800 Chevy IIs produced for 1965, only 9,100 were Super Sports. And Malibu also ate into total sales, with the model being the only car in GM’s lineup to suffer a sales decline.

On Nova models, the rear fascia’s cover was changed to add a second tail light. The inboard one would have a clear lens and become the backup light. The cove was upgraded in that all Novas received the stainless insert. Series 100 models did not receive this insert.
