1970 Chevrolet Camaro Facts and Specifications

General Year Information – 1970 Chevrolet Camaro

The 1969 model year was extended into November 1969, due to manufacturing problems that delayed the introduction of the second-generation model planned for 1970. The 1970-1/2 Camaro was not introduced until February 26, 1970, while the other new Chevrolet products hit the showrooms on September 18, 1969.

The 1970 Camaro models had completely new styling with high-intensity headlamps; a semi-fastback roof line; snout-styled grille (with egg crate insert) and a much smoother-looking rear end. The only body style available was the sport coupe.

Besides the base model, buyers could select:

    • The Rally Sport appearance option, with a distinctive nose and bumper and interior upgrades
    • The Super Sport performance package, and
    • The Z/28 Special Performance Package.

The Z28 featured a new high-performance 350 CID V-8.  It delivered 360 HP and 380 lb⋅ft of torque. The Z28’s new 360 HP 350 was a much better performer overall than the smaller Trans-Am racing-derived 302 CID V-8s used in 1967-69 Z28s. It had greater torque and a less-radical cam, and was coupled with a 780 CFM Holley four-barrel carburetor. The larger engine permitted the less high-strung new Z28 model to now be available with the optional 3-speed Turbo Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission for the first time.

NOTE: Camaro models above the base model were still differentiated by the RPO packages. See the list below.
