1968 Dodge Mid-Size Facts and Specifications
General Year Information – 1968 Dodge Mid-Size Car
All New Styling
Completely restyled for 1968, the new Coronet models presented a smoother, more rounded profile than in the previous year. They are considered one of the most attractive Coronets produced. A full-width grille housed the quad headlights, and its insert design was a very fine, egg-crate arrangement. The taillights were housed in a full-width, concave escutcheon panel.
A new medium-priced high-performance entry was the Super Bee. It came between Coronet and Coronet 440, in terms of price and features, but its base engine was a 383 CID four-barrel utilizing the R/t’s 440 CID heads and camshaft. The R/T continued as the top sport model, once again including the special 440 CID 375 HP version with the Hemi being optional.
Completely restyled for 1968, the new Chargers went from a fastback body style to a semi-fastback style. The look emulated a fastback via the use of “flying buttress” C-panels that angled so that the roofline appear to slant back much more than it did. A full-width grille was featured, and a very smooth, slightly rounded ‘coke-bottle’ shape was used. At the rear end, two round tail lights on each side were located in a flat-black finished escutcheon panel.
The three-seat wagon was now available in the Coronet 500 line.

The Super Bee was based on the Chrysler B platform containing the Coronet. It was a back-to-basics mid-size performance car. The interior was spartan with a vinyl bench seat, and without even carpets in early models, and few options were available. The standard transmission was a 4-speed manual with floor shift, and the 3-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission was optional.

The standard Super Bee engine was an exclusive 383 CID B-series V8 engine with a 4-barrel Carter Carburetor rated at 335 HP @ 5200 RPM and 425 lb⋅ft of torque @ 3400 RPM. Its extra power over the standard 4-bbl 383 V-8 was the result of using camshaft and cylinder heads from the Dodge R/T’s ‘s 440 CID V-8 and a raise in compression to 10.5:1.
