General Year Information – 1966 Plymouth Barracuda
The 1966 Barracuda was redesigned somewhat forward of the windshield, but for the most part, unchanged at the rear. The car used the new split Valiant grille opening, but the inserts had a grid style pattern. A circular medallion was set in the horizontally ribbed body colored center panel. “Barracuda” in script was set in front of the front wheel openings, close to the front fascia. The trim above the deck lid was changed to a unique Barracuda fish logo for the first time. On cars having the Barracuda S option package, a small, circular medallion was placed below the script. Deluxe models featured fender-top turn signal indicators with a stylized fin. The bumpers were larger, that actually stretched appearance and made the car appear wider.
The 225 CID 145 HP SlI-6, optional on Valiant models, was now standard in the Barracuda. The 273 CID two-barrel V-8 remained standard for the V-8 Series Barracuda. Pin striping was placed along the Barracuda’s belt line. A vinyl top was a new option. The Dashboard was changed slightly. A console was now optional.

The 225 cubic inch 145 horsepower Slant Six (optional on other Valiant models) was standard in the Barracuda, leaving the 170 CID version only available on the Valiant. This left the Barracuda with the 225 CID I-6, the 273 2-barrel V-8 and the 273 CID Formula S 4-barrel as the only engines in the line.
