1967 Dodge Mid-Size Car Facts and Specifications

General Year Information – 1967 Dodge Mid-Size Car

The mid-sized Coronets and Chargers were slightly facelifted for 1967. The Coronet received a version of the grille seen on the 19666 Charger. it also featured a very slightly revised rear end treatment.

The line continued to be split low to high level by the Coronet (wagon only), Coronet Deluxe, Coronet 440, Coronet 500 and the new Coronet R/T (“road and track”) supercar. The models looked very similar and were defined more by interior trim and increasing standard features and content up to the Coronet 500. The R/T was basically a Coronet 500 with more powerful engines, heavy duty suspension, brakes and  running gear.

The new R/T was the top of the mid-size line. It was designed and marketed as a pure performance model, constructed to compete with GM’s muscle cars and Ford’s Fairlane GT. It powerplant outshone the competition with a 440 CID V-8  standard and with the famous 426 Hemi as optional.

On the engine side –
The 1967 version of the base two-barrel 383 CID V-8 had a longer-duration camshaft and smaller carburetor bores , now at 1.25″.  The 440 CID V-8 had a hotter camshaft, a larger 4-barrel carburetor, better. lower-restriction exhaust manifolds, and the  heads were fitted with bigger valves.  Dual exhaust was standard, along with a dual snorkel air cleaner.  A new “LA” based 318 CID V-8 was introduced. It derived from the 273 CID V-8, using the “thin wall” casting process. It now had wedge combustion chambers, abandoning the “Polyspherical” chambers introduced back in 1954. Also new were hydraulic tappets. Horsepower was the same as in the old A-series 318 at 230.
