1960 Oldsmobile Facts and Specifications

General Year Information – 1960 Oldsmobile

For 1960, the 98 was completely restyled, while keeping the underlying structure and rooflines of the 1959 models. All four body styles were carried over, however the four-door sedan was renamed “Celebrity Sedan” — a designation used only one year on the Ninety-Eight, but that would continue on 88 sedans up to 1965.

A simpler and yet bold new grille was featured up front while rear fascia was redesigned with even flatter almost non-existent, horizontal tailfins, plus new taillights highlighted this makeover. Power for Super 88 models remained the same, while Dynamic 88s had their 371 CID Rocket V-8 detuned to 240 HP, using a lower compression ratio to facilitate lower-priced regular octane gasoline.

The 1960 Oldsmobile line was introduced on October 1, 1959. Model year production peaked at a solid 347,141 units. Rare options included: Dual exhausts (3.1 percent); limited slip differential (5.3 percent); air conditioning (18.8 percent); power seats (19 percent) and power windows (18 percent).

Considering the recession, Oldsmobile was making solid sales, and the mid-size car was coming!
