1967 Chevrolet Chevelle Facts, Figures, and Specifications

1966 Chevelle Facts Specifications Information Data

Very slight sheetmetal changes, primarily in the front and rear fender edges, were made for Chevelle in 1967. The car’s styling was held to minimum because of the anticipated all-new 1968 models.

1967 – Hold the Fort Until the New Styling Arrives

A new luxury station wagon line was added – the Concours. Notably, the SS 396 interior had bucket seats as an option.

General Year Information – 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle

A new anodized aluminum grille was used and all Chevelles had grille opening moldings with a Chevrolet badge, except for the SS 396 which replaced this badge with the “SS 396” logo. The front bumper has the parking/directional signal lamps. The windshield had bright reveal moldings, venti-pane frames were also stainless, as were the rear window reveal moldings.

Large wraparound tail lamps were featured at the rear new rear end with standard backup lights. Front disc brakes were available on all models, and a new dual master cylinder brake system incorporated a warning light. New safety equipment became standard, including a collapsible steering column.

Seven transmissions were available: two manual three-speeds, two manual four-speeds, an overdrive three-speed, and two automatics with the Turbo-Hydramatic 400 being available. The manual-shift feature of the Turbo Hydramatic transmission was featured. Options included Super-lift air shock absorbers, Strato-ease headrests, and special instrumentation.

All Chevrolets appeared in dealer showrooms September 29, 1966. Model year production peaked at 1,900,049 units.

Chevelle 300 models had no identification on the rear fender, merely a Chevrolet badge. They had single-unit taillights with bright bezels; a chromed outside rear view mirror and “Chevrolet” in semi-script in the deck cove.

Interiors were trimmed in cloth and vinyl and included these features: parking brake and brake system warning light, cigarette lighter, glove compartment lock, lever-type door handles, front door arm rests, foam cushioned front seat, padded sun visors, black rubber floor covering, day/night rear view mirror, four-way hazard flasher system, and center dome light.

The Chevelle 300 Deluxe was a slightly embellished Chevelle 300. The series featured, in addition to or replacing those of the Chevelle 300 included bright exterior body sill moldings, rear cove lower trim moldings on the sedan, “Chevelle 300 Deluxe” rear fender nameplates and a rear cove or tailgate center emblem. Bodies had flush and dry rocker panels and inner fenders.

Interiors were cloth and vinyl – and all-vinyl in station wagon – and the instrument panel had a silver-finished upper accent. The rear arm rests had built-in ash trays, while the floor was covered with color-keyed vinyl-coated rubber.  Like the 300, they had parking brake and brake system warning light, cigarette lighter, glove compartment lock, lever-type door handles, front door arm rests, foam cushioned front seat, padded sun visors, day/night rear view mirror, four-way hazard flasher system, and center dome light. Automatic interior light switches were added.

The Malibu was more elegantly appointed than the 300 Series. The exterior was distinguished by bright lower body-side and rear quarter moldings, bright roof drip cap moldings, bright rear quarter window reveal moldings on station wagons, “Malibu” in script on the rear fenders, black-accented rear cove outline panel, single-unit taillights with black-accented bezels and bright horizontal strips, rear cove or tailgate “Chevelle” badge set to the right, and on the station wagons, a tailgate molding. Full wheel covers were part of the trim.

Interiors were upgraded and included a Malibu-specific steering wheel, a walnut-finish upper panel on the instrument panel, illuminated heater control panel, electric clock, bright accents on the vinyl sidewall and door panel trim, bright bases on front arm rests; a foam-cushioned rear seat, color-keyed floor carpeting, and courtesy lights in the convertible.

Chevelle’s “SS 396″performance package for 1966 included twin simulated air intakes, ribbed color-accented body sill and rear fender lower moldings, “SS 396” grille and rear cover emblems and “Super Sport” in script on the rear fenders. Specific wheel covers were included, as were five nylon red-stripe tires.

Interiors were all-vinyl, with bench front seat standard and included all Malibu features except for color-keyed vinyl-coated cargo floor mat and textured vinyl cargo area sidewalls. On the interior, there was a center console with four speed or automatic transmission shifter, and all-vinyl luxury seating and trim. A special instrument panel featured  temperature, ammeter and oil pressure gauges.

The El Camino model came in Base and Custom trim. The Base model was trimmed as a Chevelle 300 and the Custom was trimmed as a Malibu. Colors were as set for the regular line.
