1970 Ford Bronco Facts, Figures, and Specifications

Bronco styling changes were minor for 1970, mostly regarding the side marker lights.

 

 

1970 Ford Bronco –
Steady as She Goes for 1970

Though losing the Roadster, the other models had reasonable sales increases that brought total production to just a bit below the 1966 intro year.

General Year Information – 1970 Ford Bronco

Styling changes were minor for the four-wheel drive Bronco in 1970. The front side-marker light and rear quarter panel reflector were now flush-mounted and higher than before. Standard features included: All-vinyl, full-width seat; fresh air heater and defroster; lockable glove compartment; padded instrument panel; energy-absorbing sun visors; vinyl-coated floor mat; floor-mounted T-bar transfer case control; Mono-Beam suspension; self-adjusting brakes; and fully synchronized three-speed manual transmission.

NOTE: The 302 CID V-8 was now the optional engine in the Bronco.

Historical Notes

Sales were down for 1970, from 20,956 in 1969 to 18,450.

Model U-140 – This model looked like a mini-pickup truck. It had an all-steel, bolted-on, removable roof over the front seat. The side doors had roll-up windows.  The compact rear cargo area could hold up to 32.1 cubic feet. Among standard features were: a three-speed fully synchronized transmission, Mono-Beam front suspension, through-drive two-speed transfer case, and 11 x 2 inch front brakes.

Model U-150  – This was the most luxurious Bronco. It had a full-length roof and large quarter windows and was equipped as the Bronco Pickup.  Among standard features were: a three-speed fully synchronized transmission, Mono-Beam front suspension, through-drive two-speed transfer case, and 11 x 2 inch front brakes.

Sport Bronco Wagon and Pickup features. (Available ONLY in the Pickup and Wagon). In addition to or in place of standard features, these include:

    • Argent silver-painted grille with bright Ford letters
    • Bright metal Sport Bronco emblem
    • Bright headlight, side light, reflector and taillight bezels
    • Bright metal drip rail moldings
    • Bright metal grille molding and tailgate release handle
    • Bright metal wheel covers (with 15 in. wheels only)
    • Bright metal windshield and window frames
    • Chrome bumpers front and rear
    • Chrome front bumper guards
    • Cigarette lighter
    • Hardboard headlining with bright metal retainer moldings (Wagon)
    • Parchment vinyl simulated-carpet front floor mat with bright metal retainers (rear floor mat included with optional rear seat)
    • Pleated parchment vinyl front seat
    • Satin-finish horn ring
    • Vinyl door trim panels with bright metal moldings
    • 6.50 x 16-6 ply-rated TT tires.

Inline Six. Overhead valves. Cast iron block.  Displacement: 170 cubic inches. Bore and stroke: 3.50 x 2.94 inches. Compression ratio: 8.7:1. Horsepower: 105 @ 4200 RPM. Torque: 156 @ 2200 RPM. Hydraulic valve lifters. Camshaft Duration (Intake) 240, (Exhaust) 240°, Overlap 27°; Lift 0.348”. Seven main bearings. Carburetion: Ford (Autolite) two-barrel (Manual Transmission) Model C8AF-9510-BD, (Automatic Transmission) C9ZF-9510-G.
