1952 Cadillac Facts and Specifications

General Year Information – 1952 Cadillac Facts

In 1952, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Cadillac, the V-shaped hood and deck emblems were done as gold plated castings. The grille wraparound panels were redesigned once again having broad chrome trim below each headlight with side scoop styling and gold-colored winged emblem mounted in the center. Cars would now continue to have the bumper bullets (or “Dagmars” as they were called then). Engine output for the 331 CID V-8 was up to 190 HP. New standard features included self-winding clocks, improved direction signal indicators, glare proof mirrors, Stannate treated pistons, and four barrel carburetion. Cadillac won Motor Trend’s “Car of the Year” again in 1952.

Series 60
The “Fleetwood” script returned to the trunk lid. The rear exhaust outlets were now in the form of two wide horizontal slots on the outer edges of the rear bumper. Also new for 1952 were winged crest emblems, mounted on the grille extensions below the headlights. The revised automatic transmission was standard on Sixty Special, while power steering was offered at extra cost. Sales fell to 16,110 units, while the price and weight both rose, to $4,269 and 4,258 lbs. of shipping weight.

Series 62
The Series 62 sedan was also characterized by a higher rear deck lid contour that provided additional luggage space. Back up lights were now standard equipment and were incorporated in the taillights. The grille wraparound panels were redesigned once again having broad chrome trim below each headlight with side scoop styling and gold-colored winged emblem mounted in the center. The Coupe DeVille again had a script nameplate on the rear roof pillar. All Cadillacs adopted a through the bumper dual exhaust system. Deck ornamentation took the form of a Cadillac crest over a broad golden “V”.

Series 75
Although all Series 75 had been Fleetwood bodied since 1938 it was not until 1952 that the “Fleetwood” script appeared on the rear deck lid. Equipment features were the same as 1951 – and no business sedans were built.

Historical
Sales fell to 70,255, mostly due to Korean War manufacturing restrictions. Series 62 sales accounted for a record 78% of all Cadillacs.

The addition of the Carter or Rochester 4-barrel carburetor upped the horsepower from 160 to 190 – a dramatic increase. Horsepower would continue to increase on the 331 CID engine until it peaked at 270.

Cadillac set the bar for regular production items as standard. In this case, backup lights and notably, dual exhausts (integrated into the bumper).

1952 was celebrated by golden Vees on the hood and rear deck.  All advertising celebrated this milestone featuring the golden emblem.

Series 62 –  The V-shaped hood and deck emblems were done as gold castings. The Series 62 sedan was also characterized by a distinct, higher rear deck lid contour. This provided additional luggage space. Backup lights were standard equipment and were now incorporated in the taillights. The grille wraparound panels were redesigned once again. They now had broad chrome trim below each headlight with side scoop styling and a gold-colored winged emblem mounted in the center. At the rear, all models adopted a new Cadillac trademark, a through-the-bumper dual exhaust system. Deck ornamentation varied by series and, on 62s, took the form of a Cadillac crest over a broad golden ‘V’. The Coupe DeVille again had a script nameplate on the rear roof pillar.

New standards included self-winding clocks, dual-range Hydra-Matic drive, improved direction signal indicators, glare-proof mirrors, Stannate treated pis­tons, four-barrel carburetion and all other features seen the year before. Hydraulic window lifts remained as regular equipment on convertibles and Coupe De Ville models. Hydra-Matic drive was regular equipment on all models and power windows were standard on the Convertible and Coupe DeVille.

Models Available were 4-door Sedan,  2-door  Coupe, 2-door  Coupe DeVille, and Convertible.

Series 60 Special – The Sixty Special Fleetwood sedan had the same general styling changes seen in other lines, plus minor trim and appoint­ment variations. For example, the word “Fleetwood” appeared on the rear deck lid instead of a Cadillac crest and the eight vertical fender louvers were still in place. Hydra-Matic drive and hydraulic windows were installed at no extra cost. New standards included self-winding clocks, dual-range Hydra-Matic drive, improved direction signal indicators, glare-proof mirrors, Stannate treated pis­tons, four-barrel carburetion and all other features from the year before. 

The 4-door Sedan was the only model.

 

Series 75 – Styling changes on the long-wheelbase series also conformed to the theme for the year with the Golden Anniversary highlighted. Equipment features were the same as before. No business sedans were built. New standards included self-winding clocks, improved direction signal indicators, glare-proof mirrors, Stannate treated pis­tons, four-barrel carburetion. The dual-range Hydra-Matic drive was still optional.

Models Available were 7523X 4-door Sedan 8-passenger and 7533X and 4-door Imperial Sedan 8-passenger. A “Series 86” commercial chassis with 157 inch wheelbase was available on special order.
